In inexplicably small odds that Brian Burke wasn't just being a media-whore and is actually going to stop at nothing to get Tavares, what would he have to give the Isles in order to actually accomplish this?
On MHH I wondered this aloud and decided a trade would have to look like this:
To NY Islanders:
• 7th overall pick
• 1st round pick in 2010
• Kaberle
• 3rd round pick
To Toronto:
• 1st pick
Hurting Toronto is that they really don't have much in the way of prospects to trade the Isles either. But I can't see Garth Snow accepting anything less than this for the chance to draft Tavares, and I can't see Burke being dumb enough to offer this.
Basically I'm saying that either Burke is a fool or a media-whore who knew exactly what to say to get the media in a tizzy and paying attention to him. I'll go with the latter.
