Panthers swap Welch for Eminger

A relatively minor trade involving two defencemen: Florida has moved Noah Welch and a third-round pick in exchange for Steve Eminger from Tampa Bay.

Eminger has played well for the Lightning since being dealt there about 50 games ago, and he'll help Florida in the postseason (assuming they make it).

Tampa Bay is getting ripped on TSN at the moment for the trade, as Eminger was one of the players they received for Matt Carle in a deal with the Flyers. I've said my piece on the Lightning long ago, but here goes again: It's incredibly sad for the fans of that team that the new ownership has made such a mess of the franchise. It's going to take a serious culture change, and likely a few years of rebuilding, for them to progress up the standings again.
