Unsolved Mysteries: The NHL Awards Who voted for Jassen Cullimore?

The plot thickens on the zany Norris Trophy voting I talked about last week.

When you have a scenario like Panthers defenceman Jassen Cullimore receiving a vote as the fifth-best defenceman in the NHL, the obvious answer is that it was a homer vote, someone who works the beat in Florida and feels there's an unheralded gem on that team's second pairing.

That, however, doesn't appear to be the case.

George Richards of the Miami Herald, who runs the web's one and only Panthers blog at On Frozen Pond, sent me an email over the weekend to say that (a) he's the only PHWA voter in South Florida, and (b) it wasn't him.

There were 134 votes cast for the Norris, one of which was Richards's, and there was likely also a hearty contingent of voters from Canadian cities. Cullimore's from Simcoe, Ont., and has played for Vancouver, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Chicago.

I can't for the life of me explain this one. If only Robert Stack was still around...
