Globesports.com has learned the Pittsburgh Penguins have offered up former Harvard University captain Noah Welch in exchange for Gary Roberts.
Welch is quite a player, a young blueliner with excellent size (6 foot 4, 215 pounds) and numbers in the AHL this season (21 points in 27 games). This would be an excellent deal for the Florida Panthers — who are amassing a big, mobile defence core — but as Roberts has a no-trade clause, it's really up to him if this deal goes through.
